Aarhus Universitet (Aarhus University, AU) is among the world’s 100 best universities and in the top ten among the youngest of these. AU covers all fields of knowledge from basic to applied research. AU participates in ParaFishControl through the Fish Health group at the Department of Animal Science (ANIS). The Fish Health group, formerly based at DTU Veterinary, deals mainly with fish aquaculture, from basic to applied aspects and in permanent contact with the aquaculture industry. The group has a long experience and owns equipment for research within fish immunology, molecular biology, vaccinology, microbiology, cell culture, histology and animal infection trials.

Prof. Niels Lorenzen is the head of the Fish Health group at AU. He leads WP5. He has 26 years of research experience in fish diseases. He has authored/co-authored >70 publications published in international reviewed journals. Niels Lorenzen has a strong experience with EU projects and has been coordinator of the FP6 project IMAQUANIM (“Improved immunity of aquacultured animals”). He works on immunology and microbiology with emphasis on host-pathogen interactions at the molecular level, application of recombinant protein technology for identification of protective epitopes and vaccine development and use of infection models in fish for testing of general and applied prophylactic and therapeutic concepts. |

Dr. Helle Frank Skall has over 17 years of research experience in aquaculture. She has participated in EU- and national funded research projects. She has been employed at the EU Reference Laboratory for Fish Diseases until recently and has co-authored over 20 scientific publications. She has studied fish diseases with focus on their surveillance and control, prophylaxis and development of diagnostic methods. Her research focus is on viral and bacterial pathogens. |

Lene Nørskov is animal caretaker and has taken care of experimental fish and participated in the practical work with experimental trials since 2000. She has participated in the Felasa Category B course and passed the examination. |
